Well, I'm here today to show you the motherload of all free dining deals...

KidWinks.com

The website is a collection of listings of child-friendly places and activities in the Chicagoland area but the highlight of the website is their Kids Eat Free calendar. Simply click on a date on the calendar and a listing of area restaurants that offer free or greatly reduced children's meals on that particular date. No longer planning nights out around the deals, now, you can choose the deal for your night out!

I'd suggest you call the restaurant ahead of time to make sure that the deal is still valid and then go out and ENJOY!

Now, readers, I'd like to apologize for being absent for the past couple of days. We've had some changes at my job and that, combined with a bit of a cold, has thrown my schedule for a loop. So, as a way to pay you back for your patience, I've lined up some crafty posts for next week. Be sure to check back and find out what fun I have in store for you!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-57495177147010162092009-09-20T20:52:00.001-05:002009-09-20T20:24:30.738-05:00NecessitiesThis is Bear Necessities.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixqQ7ufplYumY5DWbVGJf3e4GZh_tu1d5KsRkTvXptB8jTNx2nTFj81_cKIp0dxsc8tTqdgwZIIJu4CIFhPQl8hmsQRNaDjkf2HxrIKXSWX_z7ZQ-7k8l70BItU2zcTz6bduwIyaLTpc18/s320/DSCF2312.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383723292281835938" />
He is Morgan's constant companion. Her best friend. Her cuddle buddy. Her "brother" as she calls him (Which, if Vito and I have anything to say about it...which we DO... will be the only brother she ever has). Named after the song from Jungle Book because, when Morgan was a baby, it was the go-to song whenever she was crying. Worked every time. Thankfully for our vocal cords, he now comforts her when the song used to.

The other night, after putting the girls to bed, Vito and I settled in to watch So You Think You Can Dance and have a few adult beverages. As she is wont to do, Morgan waited until lights out to decide that she needed to go potty. Vito lifted her over the baby gate at her door and she scurried off to the bathroom. Suddenly, we hear a scream that would peel paint off of the walls. Thinking that someone was hurt, we both leaped off of our chairs and ran into the kitchen where we encountered a sobbing Morgan clutching a soaking wet Bear Necessities. "I dropped him in the potty! I dropped him in the potty!" she wailed. "Now I have NO ONE! I have no one to cuddle! No one to sleep with!" Her sobs were coming fast and furious so Vito stepped in to comfort and distract her while I took the bear, established that he had fallen in post-flush and proceeded to pretend to wash him in the sink and dry him with the hair dryer all the while getting another bear out of the closet.

You read that right. We have a Spare Necessities. When Morgan chose Necessities (with a little encouragement from Mom and Dad) as her comfort object, I scoured the internet to find a place where I could purchase two more. We rotate them out every few weeks to be washed and ensure an even wear.

Back to the night in question, I gave Spare Necessities a few blasts of heat from the dryer for authenticity and a tragedy was averted. Morgan snuggled up with her cuddle buddy and all was right with the world.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU8EfG99RWwCBYQ-fD7_X5P2CyNqx-PHwtpBaUmHCXPulIMfIeMQypO6ag2WszJ9DYeWaOEEapWYx8OG1cV6UGUUtGmVOFSSy7_GvYJgCry1md2cAhOEv2b4MXpRdFmJoeqYUYAfpO2H8B/s320/DSCF2318.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383724190267791282" />
So, if you take nothing else from this blog, remember this story. Every year, she hosts a multi-family garage sale and this was the first year we participated. Once the sale was finished, everything left over was either donated to charity or, if the item was not of interest to the charity, listed on Freecycle.

Curious, I had to check it out. Now, I'm hooked!

The Freecycle Network is a movement of people dedicated to keeping the amount of usable items from ending up in landfills. There are over 4000 groups located all over the world.

The way it works is simple: A person searches the Freecycle website for a local group. Once one is found in the user's area, they apply to join the Yahoo group and the moderator (a volunteer) will okay membership and send a list of rules (basic etiquette, list of forbidden items, safety hints). Then, simply start listing!

There are four self-explanatory types of posts: OFFER, PROMISED, TAKEN and WANTED. If you have something you want to get rid of, you post an "OFFER". Once someone has contacted you about your item, you post a "PROMISED" and, when the item is picked up, post that it is "TAKEN". Also, if there is something that you desire and are hoping another member has sitting in their garage, you can post a "WANTED" message.

The items being given away can range from the sublime (exercise equipment, computers, baby items, furniture) to the ridiculous (broken appliances, used lathe, 1/2 dozen promotional frisbees). I even saw someone offer a trash bag full of empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls. Funny thing was that it was posted as TAKEN by the end of the day I'm sure that some daycare of homeschooling Mom found a great craft use for them!

Two of my best "scores" have been for the girls.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXz_exAsMXeUgrrKU_CFhettLPLurCZoQoXf-hjMlAHrAlqtVT_JkkNuJAT-FFv6beyBf4YZ3M2xc6daRxKoVcjcsdJyb8KF5On5xnIrnlPOoy6IRKZv-IHesnB2d3xTKYBe4YiiyBKpBa/s320/DSCF1987.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382601498922174482" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfLCFk7bAcCUrSATFrbs6ElSa4HHzn0YYBYz8BdSROJPFpr-Njo2Fqm4R0DcRn60sxEhZi7KTyjz3AOm8sQ-gSQMZAhNSGUzpRfaS3FQn4DRs2zOzWvBmWaS367qsWkVXv_B0SsWeMqY_t/s320/DSCF2037.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382602851190239378" />

Needless to say, they think Freecycle is pretty cool too!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIfVUre16K-G7PhsJoDSLyw-W7QjFs7Fe9v22aqsBevAaWlLfC8PFp_P7YKJP7XQ5pd16H5QHNTBApR6rrmqZsclSqpTtSW7Ist8tHvTkSvRn4ErMNg4YfzYuUkMO57mkvZdvKY1LjoQxK/s320/DSCF1993.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382601961256529218" />
Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-54371509768499581792009-09-15T09:00:00.001-05:002009-09-15T09:00:00.141-05:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 168px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGbf6t9iRhkdIjkt8gdV1ggLE41oAEP6wq94dI1DvXRFQkqBsi_1YvcqQryhp8VmTz_RXEyS5U30c3cTaIzvVjD-K7yS__tlshTsSrm1Jd0Yx2lZn5moOd_amt0mdLUHZvrlezJptC5pFS/s320/TUESDAY.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369630063342920722" />

In getting out and about with the girls, I always have my trusty aluminum water bottle with me. I also try to remember to bring snacks with me. It helps to battle the demon of low blood-sugar crankiness WITHOUT spending oodles of money at the snack bar. Throughout our house are beautiful bound books with the evidence of my good intentions: a couple of entries, a week or two absence, a few more stops and starts and, then, nothing. Two of my most treasured possessions are a "note" book that Caryn, my best-friend in high school, and I would write in and pass back and forth in between class and a gingham covered book which is the only journal that I kept for an extended period of time. The former is a silly back and forth between two teenage girls obsessed with boys and trying to wend our way through puberty. The latter details Vito and my struggle with infertiliy and subsequent pregnancy with Morgan. Paging through the two is like stepping into a time machine. I'm instantly transported back, laughing and crying as I remember the person I was back then.

Our family took a trip recently to San Franciso to attend the christening of my nephew, Sullivan. I began with the girls what I hope to be a continuing tradition... the travel diary. Armed with books, stickers, glue sticks and crayons provided by Nana, the girls and I would sit in the hotel after a day of sightseeing and discuss our adventures. Since they are still learning to write, I'd jot down a few of their quotes or a memory that I had from the day (ie "Sophie slept her way down Lombard Street" or Morgan says "I'm going to move to San Francisco when I'm in 8th grade.") Then, the girls would draw, color and decorate the pages however they felt. I highly recommend you try this with your kids next family trip as it is a great way to unwind (and keep the kids quiet) in the hotel room and will help all of your relive the fun of the vacation for years to come.

A few tips:
1. Be sure to grab brochures, business cards and area travel magazines wherever you go. They are great items to paste into the books. (And be sure to get enough for each child to have their own. You don't want any arguments over that ONE particular picture of the Golden Gate Bridge!)
2. Look for a book that is small enough to stick in a bag or purse as the travel journals are also a good pastime for antsy kids in a restaurant.
3. When you get home, print out a few pictures of your child on the trip and add them to the book.
4. Remember, there is no "right" way to make a travel journal. Try not to influence their creativity too much. If your 2 year old wants to put EVERY San Francisco sticker layered on top of each other on one page and not space them out evenly so there are enough for each page, let them! If by "in peace" I mean "while being jostled by shoppers with large bags and having errant cups of coffee spilled on me all while trying to determine the source of that funky smell" which, as a parent of two young children, I do!

Some of my most recent favorite reads have been the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, Roma by Steven Saylor and Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant. Often, my selections are courtesy of our local library but, recently, I've discovered a new way to feed my book habit.... paperbackswap.com.

This free online service is a way for people around the country to clear out some of their old reads off the shelf and get some new ones. How it works is easy: After signing up for membership, you list the books you are offering for trade by typing in the ISBN number on the back cover of the book. (Don't let the name of the site fool you! You can list hardcover books and audio books as well!) Then, if a person is interested in one of your books, they request it and, if you accept the request, you ship it via media mail. (Usual cost is $2-4 depending on weight of book). You can even print out shipping labels and postage on your computer. It couldn't be any easier! Once the book is marked received by the requestor, you are awarded one credit to your account with which you are free to request whatever book you want from another member.

There are all sorts of books available: fiction, non-fiction, how-to books, textbooks, children's literature. If you don't see a particular book you want, you can add it to your wish list and are alerted once someone lists it.

To get you started swapping books right away, PBS offers two free book credits when you list ten! It is almost the season to curl up under a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa (or brandy) and a good book. So, this weekend, clear off your shelves, go to paperbackswap.com and start swapping!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-6956998182500610282009-09-01T07:59:00.008-05:002009-09-08T07:52:42.953-05:00<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 168px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGbf6t9iRhkdIjkt8gdV1ggLE41oAEP6wq94dI1DvXRFQkqBsi_1YvcqQryhp8VmTz_RXEyS5U30c3cTaIzvVjD-K7yS__tlshTsSrm1Jd0Yx2lZn5moOd_amt0mdLUHZvrlezJptC5pFS/s320/TUESDAY.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369630063342920722" />

As I've mentioned before, Vito and I are fans of the roadtrip. Prior to getting married and having children, we both worked for touring children's theatre companies where we would routinely load up the extended cargo van with sets, props and puppets, drive for hours upon end to get to the school or theater where we would be scheduled to perform, unload the van, do the show and start all over again. (Yes, I know, how on EARTH could I have left behind me the glamorous life of an actor?)
In Vito's "bachelor pad", there was a giant map of the US hanging on the wall. We would stare at it for hours, picking the places we'd like to go and plotting out the most interesting routes. When Morgan and Sophie were born, we both hoped that they would be good travelers and, for the most part, they are. (Of course, I am erasing from my memory the emergency pitstop at the side of the road in the middle of the desert when a recently potty-trained daughter-who-shall-remain-nameless simultaneously puked and peed on herself and her carseat. Mommy went through an entire pack of wipes, a roll of paper towels and two bottles of water trying to clean up the mess by herself since her other half is a "social vomiter". But I digress...)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg09WzYPwrx1Duw-KVafIdTKChr8yvWVp4s7BnXq8zWWwm7YdEs_s58HjaSYFhiY9qr9ipQ-D4xOKGLVru3_VzVl3es0TRtEJKHw0jikTZSO8VKHn9fwZQJyCH4ZbdB9O988bjIXvswr5u/s320/n1461932767_30166126_3145.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376488280463504562" />
Obviously, road-trips nowadays require more preparation than a full tank of gas and a venti coffee but they can be even more fun. One of the biggest lifesaver that I've found is the Mystery Grab Bag. For a few weeks leading up to the trip, I troll the $1 aisle at Target and visit the local Dollar Tree picking up little doodads and toys. (Be sure to stay away from the ones that make noise or you will be sorry!) I search out sales on DVDs and CDs or borrow some from the library. A few nights before the trip, I pull out all the remnant rolls of wrapping paper left over from Christmas, birthdays, weddings, etc., wrap each thing individually and divide them equally between two grab bags (one for each girl). When the day arrives and the initial thrill of the road trip has worn off, out come the grab bags. Each child gets to pull a treat from their bag and tries to guess what it could be before tearing into the paper. Crayons and a coloring book! A DVD! A princess doll! A new book! Whatever it is elicits shouts of glee before lulling them into blessed silence as they play with their new toy. Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHP9HK76WtFU00t1lifKqkdaHSEBMSZ_bSvVBFnJliLLH5yaLO8B-Os_vJBRtDCqobSiabJ2rRIjldx5RftPVo00e9dY9JPHHPJS6IeiPN7WF9bK3sG72d06Ijsf75iDQvGTxeD0kVNsvt/s320/n1461932767_30166129_7986.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376488389060172306" />
I find that estimating a treat per hour of driving (plus a few extras in case of emergencies) works well. Just remember to plan for the drive home as well! The grab bag can be even MORE important when the kids are over-tired, overwhelmed and everyone just wants to be home.
Have a great trip!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI5Htq1lKrqfpxuZNiKTnB0VWjrh8KgJKr15x4z2Xu-onSXGvhny8M2eeeoWX9JsikKbzh2j3rm9024cCF55eXTcfBtvxuxUZxMlaYfM4_jPGT9wvvaIdhICV-PCHLGzLdWAAUdb9pxTGq/s320/n1461932767_30166285_9214.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376488497713875522" />Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-12193629029841305652009-08-30T12:56:00.016-05:002009-08-30T15:04:25.852-05:00This Museum is Just My Size!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3n3BD-GuoVDlOfdKW3Bnj3qbUiv8vzy0YfVC63a0U9v8riJKnQ1Bjl6HjqgIUgslM-K3i3qg86Xp6OrxTAzr89vbmLDET5GiwQX3rTpP6XuMCxrS0TOc_xmAXop7RNJVM780IVL6g76cy/s320/DSCF2114blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375837381251574466" />
The other day, the girls and I went to one of our favorite places to play... Kohl Children's Museum. Now, in the interest of "Blogging with Integrity", I have to let you all know that my husband works at the museum so I may be a little biased but, frankly, I think that Kohl is head and shoulders above other area children's museums when it comes to the younger set. Smaller and less chaotic than Chicago Children's Museum, Kohl's is organized into ten exhibits and a main street section. The simple and open floor plan provides good sight-lines that allow a parent to keep an eye on their excited and ever moving children.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF31M-yXBn2rG7QqYCsuIvorwd3Pj_iapYRFvHB6kU6QNV-hf-2zl8GS6DmDaj8xiuo5mlL6MSghLfmUqR6XTXxWPSsczqzc_cBAx716qHotPtxhYm9wpBY8sc36j6FIasO6hHQnji3wo1/s320/DSCF2109blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375836959117392146" />
It seems that WE always begin in Potbelly's on Main Street. Since both girls have informed me recently that they are going to be actresses, maybe they are just getting some training in waiting tables. They love making sandwiches with the various play breads, meats and vegetables and pretending to pay at the cash register.
Another "must visit" is the Veterinarian's Office (So there IS hope for the girls, yet!). Cute cuddly stuffed animals can be bathed, brushed, have their hearts listened to with stethoscopes and, in what seems to be the most popular activity, be wrapped in multitudes of ace bandages. A "working" xray viewer adds an air of authenticity.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUtEwY2Z9WO8bxOOLCiGUBVM0Hgg2g0r_xiun7Z4fkHsh06xrF4Dx7ttqC8howQmAAKXAT8d4hleWY9utE5cH3Wf1ziAKBLbCfApedw1h-6s7uTtql08CPb-VsF3KGcrSO6M6fJOG-sxQH/s320/DSCF2129blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375838095260259826" />
A relatively new addition to the Museum is Habitat Park. An outdoor area with climbing structures, a sensory garden and an open area set up for organized group activities, it is a fun way to get out, explore nature and run off some of that excess energy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIKXyE9cCbWrdOutkXgwn1oK9n_NR3nKipU32w8NldZxEALHha1sDkzCigAZQ4PQJMcutq1LaXQ0Me_NoiBefv4bx5dkU3T87T5FevUlbJsP4l0v_fRa9WdL4tG0PlSg0dtrPPpSF-d-LA/s320/DSCF2091blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375839708202677346" />
No doubt that at one point during your visit, your children will drag you into Water Works. While the aprons provided do little to protect the kids from getting wet, they are having so much fun they don't notice. And, thankfully, there are dryers hung on the wall outside the exhibit.
Right next to Water Works is my OWN personal favorite, Music Makers. Yes, the noise level can get a little high but playing with how music is made and how it makes a person feel is well worth it! Be sure not to miss the hidden gem in this exhibit... tucked in the corner is a room with music playing and a colorful video screen. Grab a ribbon and watch how your movements change the patterns on screen!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 178px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsqDnALAgJuwNJvMmkP4Z4kIEIiy6gDk5wZKj5s4OeBoO-hu_xy7c-_rdMePbIwW_V8YIq9gs0jFctrTEHde36RHCdz1Ys3ZF_sqy3-nspU18I84BrrrtJHVakPrDMsWv9jIgu5eooBtBA/s320/DSCF2155blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375841009954193314" />
There is too much to explore at the museum for me to fit in here. We've gone many, many time and I still find new discoveries each trip.
Overall what I appreciate most about the museum is that it is well-designed with a family in mind. There are nursing stations positioned throughout the museum. In almost every exhibit, there is a designated infant/toddler safe play area. The bathrooms are clean and have diaper dispensers in case you run out. (Although they also feature automatic flushing toilets so be sure to bring your Post-Its!). I was also very impressed with the food offerings at Kim and Scott's Pretzel Twisting Cafe. In addition to their delicious pretzels, their children's offerings were appropriate and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, they are closing on September 3 to be replaced later in the month by Cosi. We'll have to wait and see if their "expanded children's menu" lives up to it's promise.
If you happen to get down there to try out their fare before I do, send me a comment and let me know what you think. Perhaps the kids went back to school? Maybe you spent your week soaking up the last rays of summer? Either way, the family could use a dinner out.
Last week, the girls and I went to the Kohl Children's Museum. It is one of our favorite places to spend an afternoon. (Check back this weekend and I'll tell you why!) Anyways, we were there until closing and, while our imaginations were full, our tummies were empty. Looking for a place where we could grab a quick bite without breaking the bank, we stumbled upon IHOP. Now, I haven't been to an IHOP in years but I remember their menu being mostly breakfast fare. While I was surprised to see that it has expanded to include some tasty salads, burgers and sandwiches (I had the new Tuscan Chicken Griller sandwich which was great!), I was thrilled to see their latest campaign is that Kids Eat Free 4pm-10pm DAILY!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinnZGo67zG6GWu2lHBbWWvdYIrPqN1Gi-gNPH9TEh9o7Pol9VkvlibtOQrxXmEalJXP9DLRreMH4RdVVuobF0-mcpoEBf203w9nRcMSCJ8F6zRA8dkScEunsnzHa7g1L_5JWVl4rys3xRE/s320/DSCF2158.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374999844506314530" />
Yes, with the purchase of an adult entree, your 12 and under child can pick anything off of their Just for Kids menu and it's free. For many, that means cutting back on entertainment costs and non-essential purchases and for good reason! The cost of a day's outing for a family of four can easily top $150 and that is BEFORE you cave in to the never ending cries to visit the gift shop.

Never fear! Along comes the Friday Free for All! Every week, I'll feature something fun and free (or very nearly so) for families. Sometimes it will be an event. Other times, a great deal. The possibilities are endless!

And, dear readers, if you come across a fantastic freebee happening in your area, I encourage you to share the details in the comments section. After all, the more the merrier!

---------------------------------------
When I was little, my family lived just outside of Manhattan. It seemed like once a week, my mom would pack up my brother and me and schlep us into the city to visit this museum or that. (This lead to a particularly interesting discussion that my parents had with my first grade teacher when I had to draw something that began with the letter "N" and I drew NUDES!)

Now that I have children of my own, I am hoping to provide them with the same kind of experiences (Not the drawing nudes part... the museum part!) and the Chicago Public Library has made it easier (and cheaper).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjoRlXUtPpcEGjmm8X-l_QnN6ovdgW5ETsRFDQPvcvLV1YfzIkw4vbk0dCTvDQu9D-Oscdqgukp50a98Vbjy4JVXNJsDllZjov3VLeEWjrPExfcWnh5VbBX-oa-po22PxGzZUoJpJb_CO/s320/DSCF1656.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372223580823889122" />
As part of the Kraft Great Kids Museum Passport program, every branch of the Chicago Public Library has family museum passes available for one week loans. The first of what I hope are many fun changes in store for Mommy and Me (and Me!)

Vito and I love to travel. Love it. Sadly we are <del>broke</del> not independently wealthy so we don't get to do it as much as we would like. The most ambitious trip we've taken was to drive with both girls from our home in Chicago to visit Vito's parents in Arizona and we've done it TWICE. No, we're not gluttons for punishment. Prior to being married, Vito and I both toured as actors with children's theatres and developed a love for the road-trip.

When not traveling the length of Route 66, I enjoy taking the girls out and about on day trips. It is not always easy getting out of the house alone with two young kids but with a little practice and some tips garnered from other moms, I manage and enjoy it in the process.

That is where Travel Tip Tuesday fits in. Every Tuesday, I'll share with you some of the tips that I found (or have been shared with me) so that we can all get out and about and have a good time.

------------------------

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY4G17q1BEEAjIP2uyePbJfw1rZmB4F9942B4zQSwmcxTo-cc6iIRz7lSyRSwf-OV7glyopfitkDhcu3Ns_1BlGBJ-oCcNRJqi7bQBG_XusDUJ-Y4P2MWyYsgdMZh9vXzISI7FGnlpJ0ox/s320/MS_beach.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371307483310001026" />
This past Friday, the girls and I went to Oak Street beach with Nana. So much fun to build castles with. Bury our feet in. Dump on our sister's heads... Which leads us to our first Tuesday Travel Tip... How to remove that pesky sand that sticks to your body and hair. Keep a bottle of talcum powder and an inexpensive soft-bristled paint brush in your beach bag. The powder helps to break the seal between the oils on your skin and the sand and the paint brush flicks the sand off of your body.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnPskBiERYsdaCTkjd3ZmbVSAew97eU1D3RFuzQeegp-8zTqgNor5e4byOFLYGNzKOok7g-KFV2B_SpxdcmiWM89RrZyELve8Lutt_t8nAM5lQeW3bTW96u9dK1YtJYkDBB6j7YM6wCvKC/s320/S_beach.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371308676569604194" />
P.S. While we were at the beach, there was a fundraiser going on for Honor Flight Chicago. Their mission "is to honor and thank veterans - especially now our WWII veterans by bringing them to Washington DC, at no cost to them, for a day of honor." It is a great idea and a great cause. Well, things were crazy around here for a while. My husband was searching for a new job. Morgan was in school. Our "Manny" left for a full-time position. I was scrambling trying to keep too many balls in the air and blogging got dropped. Besides, I could keep everyone in the family updated about the girls through Facebook (while playing addictive games like Bejeweled Blitz and FarmVille).

I actually considered scrapping the whole thing and starting over but I just love the name and design of this blog so much that I couldn't bear to do it.

So the question became "In what direction do I want this blog to go?"

The blogs that I visit are mostly Mommy-blogs with a few special interest blogs (celebrity gossip, news, crafts and design) thrown in for balance. Why do I keep going back to certain ones and not others? It's not that they have cuter kids or especially interesting lives. It's that they offer something MORE. A different perspective on parenting. Some good ideas. Regular features. A few laughs.

And that is what I hope to do.

So look for big changes coming!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-84037861100741337242008-10-10T11:49:00.010-05:002008-10-10T12:24:40.022-05:00It's all about ME!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNJHzwBM-Wi00HrpoHwwHbI8RpO_fAVBiHvf3rDulxxuxyjquKtDJEO6_ePVIjWOQhS4klAqIwO4X-CUjO6ndGD_VZAImn7M_cFkw08rSQ8fCEm_GQm5Bx6bynRtLYNGuLi8TOS5BPNJQ/s320/MeBag4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255575134424909602" />
At Morgan's preschool, they have an interesting alternative to traditional Show and Tell days. It's called the "Me Bag" and Morgan just got to experience it.

The way the Me Bag works is that, each Friday, one student in the class is allowed to bring the Me Bag home. That weekend, the child is to fill the bag with items that represent them. It could include photographs, books, pictures drawn by the child and favorite toys. The student brings the bag to school the following Monday and gives a presentation showing their items and telling the class about them.

When Morgan discovered that it was her turn for the Me Bag, she was so excited! She carried the bag around all weekend, taking turns filling it with things, giving a practice presentation and then dumping everything out and filling the bag with completely different items. Every once in a while, she would exclaim "It's my FIRST Me Bag!!!!" as if it were an occasion as momentous as her first birthday, first haircut, her first lost tooth, etc.

As Sunday approached, we knew that we had to nail down the final selections to bring to school the next day. They were:
• Bear Necessities, Morgan's cuddle-buddy and constant companion
• A picture of Mommy, Da, Morgan and Sophie in Arizona visiting Mamah and PopPop
• "Morgan's Book", a photo album created by Nana of her first day as a big sister
• A picture that Morgan drew of Elphaba, the main character in her favorite musical, Wicked
• A picture that Morgan drew of Spiderman which was sure to impress the boys in the class

The day of her presentation, Morgan confessed to having a few butterflies in her stomach. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0PujMYVQzFrfhtHsLtOOnFNXy5ZG4joipQ4pz4T1ijVtxXBm876PmVctuIlWSOhnlfAdQVss36SqlHjTTLSNFpwQoETFuSrArBvLHSk5WBBfODbmA9Bw6VkEiFdUR9U4CQAUGXVAj6X0C/s320/MeBag3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255573196407763906" />But she had nothing to worry about, her teacher said that her presentation was terrific. It is a rite of passage for anyone growing up on the North Side and, with my cousin and his boys coming into town for a visit, there was no time like the present..

To get the full experience, we took the Red Line from my parents' to Wrigley. Morgan is an old pro at riding the CTA since we regularly took the El to her ballet lessons at Ballet Chicago. She stood in the crowd, holding on to the pole, as if it were no big deal. Sophie, on the other hand, was not a fan of public transportation! When we got off the train, I think that she would have knelt down and kissed the pavement if I would have let her!

Attending a baseball game with two young children certainly is an experience. Between the trips to get cotton candy/hot dogs/peanuts/water/you-name-it, requisite visit to the souvenir shop, trying to keep the kids from bopping the nice lady in front of us with the little bat that we purchased at the aforementioned souvenir shop, and potty trips, I think I watched about 15 minutes total of the game. Sadly, the Cubs lost but we all had a good time nonetheless.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpmernkep9r-nrpq26JWqYMYh3xDe7G9cxDmbrd2cRbAFZVn53BhQTGdrqVDpU8k9ajw64subNUd5SUOC3l_R96nRu9pUG7IuXIRQ-8fLgA7i7tx-MSuzGHz7b_iDm-uO2iAT2u0zZU96F/s320/IMG_0006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241869452183823186" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmaeyYKQqewX2q-MvCrtflrV0G7SLhj_iHQupSFZOk6w7iQKBmXEgpyYGvwB42bP_vohnKzN9A60W-ouWLB-hlYNipb-dRRyI59YKrhgCDDcERuQlTjH2tHsGJ22JRWSPIo5bcBwJli_Zc/s320/IMG_0007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241869507848661410" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoGL5OE7jxqvAndTQMjGdnQRr3zFP1NqZYEhyQpACgB7l3oW9xQ5UfSQsPvx3petMJjBJkEkf9vdxMO3Lj5YOuVzKicjyVkNJl5-_p3STNhYTsx_R0TKPnW_g0c6PLHthB03wwtsODlp4U/s320/IMG_0002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241869382952069586" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLizYEFo2YWB11fDs6u8t_RWFZVsrRE2sbr7zWgiFJOj3ruzlJHTc3UuzVBKssNSwE3tVWwB1rrm4ZehbJ6PPqHyvWnBttjxDFpOwUGDr5TkTCI_KtFwu41kncftUXb_s7_LfQE8yYIclA/s320/IMG_0001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241869923603099618" />Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-75637339156754693732008-08-30T10:52:00.006-05:002008-08-30T17:13:24.730-05:00End of an Era<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGGfObofQQjzukFoDFWlgH0uakz5VKioO9H8VHYhOzQ6WrdbKnEvaHFCp38Q8kxvGZr9a-DNJi3sxEwT9LThQVq9TVfgvVFHW7mN1XEqJp2Wlhx7WX1I9d8K9L1EvWxJ_TLHrbQQioDKqT/s320/IMG_0001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240343666649441298" />

We are marking the end of an era here. We are now a crib-less household. This morning, Vito converted Sophie's crib into a daybed and we have taken the first of many steps away from having a baby in the house.

With Morgan in preschool, we had been taking the opportunity to introduce the freedom of a "big-girl bed" to Sophie during naptime. The first couple of days, she would be out of the bed like a shot and we'd immediately pick her up and put her in the crib. The next couple of days, she became a little more stealthy but ended up back in her crib. Finally, she slept two naps in Morgan's bed and we decided that, with the long weekend upon us, it was time to make the transition.

As you can see... so far, so good. Sophie climbed into the bed and practically put herself to sleep. Of course, we've yet to try and put them down at the same time. That will be a whole new adventure tonight.

Next, I imagine will be to rid ourselves of the pacifier (or "fuss" as Sophie appropriately calls it). Then, potty-training (which Sophie is more than ready for but Mommy is not). All of these little steps, while exciting, are a little sad. It seems like Sophie's babyhood has passed so much more quickly than Morgan's. It brings to mind the lyrics of one of my favorite songs as sung on by Liz Callaway on her album, "The Story Goes On"(It's originally from the musical "Big")

Two months old, he looks up at you
How his smile melts your heart
You want to say, "Stop, time"
Don't move on
Even as you watch that look is gone
Then he's two, such a little man
So alive and so smart
Again you say, "Stop, time"
Stay just this way
But the future comes and he can't stay
Nobody warns you of this parent's paradox
You want your kid to change and grow
But when he does, another child you've just begun to know
Leaves forever
Birthdays fly - 7, 8, 9, 10
Every kid he becomes you clutch and say "Stop, time"
Hold this one fast
But it's not supposed to last
And that time has come and passed
For he's growing
And he has to goMeredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-25919980544598661912008-08-27T07:57:00.004-05:002008-08-30T17:22:51.607-05:00Webkinz Mania!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIFPGRBW888anSTMT6qLl7o-_MQJn-GMhA-VuS1wvLQGI2trYJgyQ2tUka-APp0e266i9ShoEUZyaXuV75lYuV2kVFrX6VZOEOwb5UQro6gW7ZycnZj7uBy3lbpHwcXLyj7cqnkGXJXDeM/s320/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239736029163492274" />

I like to consider myself a trend setter rather than a trend follower but one thing that has passed my family by until recently is Webkinz. Morgan and Sophie were just a little too young when they first came out and, as time went on, I didn't feel the need to introduce them. (Frankly, I get little enough time to work on the computer as it is without someone else waiting in the wings!)

Well, the other day, Vito brought home two Lil'Kinz... a cat and a dog. Someone had left them at the park and, after a few months in the lost and found, they needed a good home. Morgan chose the cat and gave the dog to Sophie.

When asked what she wanted to name the cat, Morgan replied "Nothin'" which turned into Nuffin. Sophie's favorite turn of phrase at the moment is "Wha' Happen'?" and thus the dog had a name.

After a day or so, we logged into the Webkinz site and an obsession was born. Some of it is too complicated for Morgan to do by herself but she loves to play some of the games, make her pets move around their rooms and interact with their stuff, and take her pets to see the vet, Dr Quack.

I've begun logging on while Morgan is at school and adding a few surprises for her to find when she logs in provided that she is quiet during nap time!

So, if any of you out there are part of the Webkinz world, send a note to SoMoGio's pets Nuffin and Happen!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-57705707440802813202008-08-21T07:54:00.000-05:002008-08-28T19:43:41.464-05:00Morgan's First Day of PreschoolYes, it is official. Morgan is now a preschooler.

While I wasn't always a good student, the first day of school was something I looked forward to a great deal. I think it was the idea of starting over: New crisp folders without any pen marks on them or creased corners. The clean pencil bag with newly sharpened #2s. Seeing friends. Meeting new teachers who had no idea that you weren't so keen on turning in your homework.

So, it was with great excitement that I anticipated Morgan's first day.

We awoke first thing in the morning and had a healthy breakfast of granola.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcSfPr55Ubi2XbQYpPvWRhal8OBvyDYsznA-wxwCC-FLkzGdyYevft3SHsuzHW6BKObPXp9phZLhZZMnaOPb9v-vh4sxIOtSMZ5D2gyCJwlQddSSepoh_4bSuitr7-7m7vrDKkYeOmve8c/s320/IMG_0001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239730323533438802" />

Then, she dressed in her uniform and grabbed her backpack. Morgan was all business, refusing to actually pose for pictures so I had to snap on the fly.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG-E3e9Jaq1Uljd1M-2k4pUWmUy6Ra60CKkSPZGjkRUjgLXnjcYe43IbIhd16GOl4SlHhXyyxbmZLIBL4Fj7kCgvBmmEwWf6K8KMhC0FzViG8rBC6FTEibjKtik50XGWzZkmGb1b3h0T_b/s320/IMG_0005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239730858421963858" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI3cEaUs7htCH6QCOkaWni9ZooCyGfMgiP5i8tjzHcW3nI9z1hZLQ7KSPWqIcLEQyWaBxLfSYneODy8g-09KhWDTU5Q-GlMTe3JNWNh6hnv-gume59KoSOgJd8InerWr3tTaAK8RrZhtGM/s320/IMG_0007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239731545838823282" />

We lined up outside the school and all walked into the classroom. After overcoming a momentary bout of shyness, Morgan sat right down and started playing. I slowly eased myself to a far corner to watch her take her first steps of independence. Sorry sweetie! This one is for you...

Sophie thinks she is a big kid. Never was this more evident than at a playdate with some friends last week. They have a son, Rowan, who is a few months older than Morgan and another son, Gavin, who is a few months younger than Sophie. You'd think that it would work out that the big kids (joined by the five year old neighbor boy) would play together and the little kids would play together giving the Mommies a much deserved break. Not so fast. Sophie, tossing less than a glance Gavin's way, chased after the big kids the whole time calling "Wait! Wait!" Her little legs padding through the grass as fast as they could and her right arm pumping back and forth, faster and faster, as if it were willing her body along.

The main distraction on that hot day was a plastic slide set up to end in the inflatable pool. The older children were big enough that they could land and keep their heads above water but Sophie could not. Did this deter her? Nope. As soon as she stopped sputtering and choking on a mouthful of water, she would smile a proud smile, climb out of the pool and take her place in line with the big kids to do it all over again.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpBk05pK6kZAm86H3BEwhoGd68tk7M61AmPJl3OBn1Q-LicmQcnFLM3dnV775ai5Kbv7UbLqxMqOC_zgmQbmxwPr-oO9bD9JvHQB41em7UD3ZwpIox1GyB6uzO4ZfGciIIGJq_fAML4Ijp/s320/2.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5228601084007010578" />Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-42761574443902314832008-07-16T14:11:00.008-05:002008-07-16T14:43:13.875-05:00Winds of TimeThe calendar may read mid-July and the temperature may be upwards of 85 degrees but, in my household, fall is in the air.

Why, you may ask...

Because Morgan is registered for Pre-K and we just received her supply list and school calendar. Alongside such usual things as 3-ring binders and boxes of Kleenex are a few reminders that, while she may be 3 going on 13, Morgan is still quite young...

A complete change of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear, socks, shoes) – Accidents happen

A pillow, blanket and stuffed animal for naptime – Morgan and I are planning a trip to JoAnn Fabrics to pick out some fleece to make a no-sew fleece blanket. (Instructions can be found here.)

A picture of her family – I'm assuming that the main reason is to help stem some of the homesickness that might come along with the first week of school but I'll bet it is also so that the teachers can remember which parent goes with which child!

A picture of her as a baby – When I read that, my immediate thought was that she still IS a baby! But, as I pulled photo after photo from the Spring of 2005 up on my screen, I realized that she's come quite a long way from the bald little butterball that squeaked like a mouse while sleeping in her bassinette. The change in just three and a half short years is astounding. She's learned to crawl, then walk, then run and climb; to speak using a vocabulary that is a constant source of surprise to me; to pretend and create with her seemingly limitless imagination; to button buttons and zip zippers; to sing lyrics from Sondheim or of her own making. She's become an independent person with a personality and opinions all her own.

So, perhaps, the picture of her as a baby is less for her sake and more for the parents getting ready to send their little ones out into the world. Because, as I kiss her goodbye on her first day of school, I'll know that she'll always be my baby but she's also become quite a big girl and is ready to continue her learning in with a brand new exciting experience.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_2yr4i5N2WZ5o7u2-iVWy2ZmDA8DJ6rNfJqp-0OHvXCX4XvQaw9-MkKEPptlRuPSPCM2sUyPnyGHLVpX4R62tJEhJxea7ftZkEIGcjUwp2UsdmzGmiEpyDu6JEX0iHUhKo5-_q1I4YCvJ/s400/morganbaby.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5223698608904718066" />

Image by Weeks PhotographyMeredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-3055339916382792142008-07-14T14:43:00.001-05:002008-07-16T15:33:39.813-05:00Wall-E<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0RoaY_skxk4JzKYO4hlvFCbz_fK37mJWTfqseo0-N9k0v7UHXdJZWODsAjk74fof6g_8gG8xcEY2GKnPC3LYJqDLe4e2YGFeTqdchl9wLedt32ANO2LXlJZkL2TxobAEgr6mYEyCGDYAx/s200/2.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5223705600210170818" />
This past weekend, we took Morgan to her very first movie in the theatre.

Morgan had a great time. Aside from chowing down on popcorn and peanut MnMs, she really enjoyed the movie and her parents did too. Wall-E was another excellent film from the Disney-Pixar collaborative team.

I had read a lot about how "dark" the story was, how "disturbing" the imagery was of what humanity had become and how there was little to no dialogue in the first half hour. Well, I found that Wall-E was anything BUT dark and disturbing and, if I hadn't read about the lack of dialogue, I don't think I'd even have noticed it.

I believe the message inherent in Wall-E is that you should never give up whether it be on love or on our Earth. THAT is quite uplifting.Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-36500127171544982242008-07-08T09:12:00.006-05:002008-07-09T08:47:04.939-05:00Holding Hands<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ_VBBYAAzOjFORY383QA5dNHomb1drjtcsqVpd4362munZrQOHJWCxcZJUe0pMcAMlikT2GqI041QP7SxG9_8W7V6UCNcLvFA0MVQov5oP5p2f16MGzMZqqE47Zvmj7CA4_eRPlyaqI9O/s320/2.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5221010335695254386" />What is it about little girls and holding hands?

It has become a minor obsession with Morgan and Sophie. Often, I look back at them in their carseats and they are reaching across the divide and clasping fingers. Or, in the den, Sophie is desperately trying to catch Morgan's hands to entice her into a playful round of "Rosies". I can also spy Morgan leading Sophie by the hand out of the room or, in the case of the above picture, towards the sprinkler (which, of course, means trouble)!
Thankfully, Sophie actually ENJOYED being shoved into the path of the water and it lead to the two of them frolicking the in the sprinkler all afternoon... hand in hand, of course!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14880224915746074468noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-653113720317297713.post-17412253278571747582008-07-02T15:12:00.006-05:002008-07-02T15:17:51.928-05:00Cheeeeeeese!Thought I'd post some recent cuteness...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDNTdt7Q6ZfUrj16_dIGs9plTt6V7rrYX8Hb_5Yw35TMfEwfhWN49MSafQP5J2ISuyMA3A8Okp0hFM287tpBFzwLAA9BY2PmpWmHZpkMkf_vVpK9Tqs_0TqMFuFKf7YpUZ4JEmRtTVwdqK/s320/6.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218512837233889426" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHsvu1P_zfh1pQ5DM5B6DfBdL26d9Ssxglzg4RqVMRWR7_SOodvaWLhPpMDXsT1F5Au4vBI7eav7WClzzoay7urQC_4RKGTsxv-UTzviWmEGeKs8smuo8LWfrzP3fitrgb0N9tViy4OaPm/s320/5.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218512716639706594" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1cNyx_FV4ceet0sdcsNSnfpZ-kk9pH82P-EIrcXqvbTrSPQhQJly6TSZ8Zj9fH6ZOlN27krTtmL-w9AqR4Vnjgh9Lw8alVnNJFwRe6KGiDQ3gzYAKx3Mpqpa-6pYTsUMz-1mi9_6qyCsb/s320/4.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218512575136555682" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_h2lz56Pryg-OxCx61ZWbbCBCKlC4NECC9m93CbvHPJtC09n1Zr_C0kuBSja9HEw73WkHgNEWpt99fbav0uCn4C8GmeL3iF-1w2d11AulYxbritI_w7QaveUvluEi7pUlkt-6aGzBB4yJ/s320/2.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218512392077617186" />

And my favorite....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuDBDtHlVKKokbPenXCtKh0lzUCPhkmg_rLi7ibmwe6H6wE5hqmVkIY3OaJZsimuVurxR0IDNyAPCgUZlQQvk5pBhhyFzqvUHxBqDr34bA86I52kH1_yS8_j-wEEp637Oy-ivDdG_yKg4s/s320/3.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218512948271606674" />
Morgan is hugging Sophie and calling her "my best friend".
